Seed Germination of Two Hybrids Obtained via Cross-Pollination between Miscanthus sinensis × Miscanthus sacchariflorus

چکیده
To date, economically and energy-costly vegetative propagation using rhizomes tissue culture are the only options for cultivation of Miscanthus spp. Some genotypes miscanthus produce fertile seeds, offering a valid alternative to propagation. A preliminary study has been conducted on seeds two hybrids obtained via interspecific cross-pollination between M. sacchariflorus sinensis: ‘GRC14’ (maternal: sacchariflorus) ‘GRC10B’ sinensis). Seeds were assessed germination traits in laboratory (at 25 °C dark) just after panicle harvest, during 1-year storage at room temperature or 8 °C. In second experiment, effects gibberellic acid (GA3) solution different concentrations (0, 50, 100, 300, 500 ppm) freshly matured assessed. Poor harvest (<30%) indicates occurrence physiological dormancy. Indeed, months later, rose up 76.7% 50.8%, ‘GRC10B’, peaked 95.6% 78% 6 harvest. After total 12 months, was significantly reduced both (≈60%). stored lost dormancy earlier than those Overall, improved by GA3, but extent GA effect genotype-dependent. conclusion, low establishment rate may result from direct seeding when fresh seed is used field. this case, use GA3 possible strategy ameliorate impact germination. case delayed sowings late winter–early spring, better perform

Genetic structure of Miscanthus sinensis and Miscanthus sacchariflorus in Japan indicates a gradient of bidirectional but asymmetric introgression
Unilateral introgression from diploids to tetraploids has been hypothesized to be an important evolutionary mechanism in plants. However, few examples have been definitively identified, perhaps because data of sufficient depth and breadth were difficult to obtain before the advent of affordable high-density genotyping. Throughout Japan, tetraploid Miscanthus sacchariflorus and diploid Miscanthu...
متن کاملNuclear SSR markers for Miscanthus, Saccharum, and related grasses (Saccharinae, Poaceae)1
UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY We developed nuclear simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers for the characterization of the biomass crop Miscanthus, especially M. sacchariflorus, M. sinensis, and M. ×giganteus, and tested for cross-species amplification. • METHODS AND RESULTS Twenty-nine SSR markers (di- and tetranucleotide repeats) were developed from DNA sequences obtained from 192 clones ...
متن کاملRadiation capture and conversion efficiencies of Miscanthus sacchariflorus, M. sinensis and their naturally occurring hybrid M. × giganteus
Miscanthus is a rhizomatous C4 grass of great interest as a biofuel crop because it has the potential to produce high yields over a wide geographical area with low agricultural inputs on marginal land less suitable for food production. At the moment, a clonal interspecific hybrid Miscanthus × giganteus is the most widely cultivated and studied in Europe and the United States, but breeding progr...
متن کاملHow cell wall complexity influences saccharification efficiency in Miscanthus sinensis
The production of bioenergy from grasses has been developing quickly during the last decade, with Miscanthus being among the most important choices for production of bioethanol. However, one of the key barriers to producing bioethanol is the lack of information about cell wall structure. Cell walls are thought to display compositional differences that lead to emergence of a very high level of c...
متن کاملFlowering induction in the bioenergy grass Miscanthus sacchariflorus is a quantitative short-day response, whilst delayed flowering under long days increases biomass accumulation
Miscanthus sacchariflorus is a fast-growing C(4) perennial grass that can naturally hybridize with M. sinensis to produce interspecific hybrids, such as the sterile triploid M.× giganteus. The creation of such hybrids is essential for the rapid domestication of this novel bioenergy crop. However, progress has been hindered by poor understanding of the environmental cues promoting floral transit...
